DESCRIPTION

In order to drive change in our society and to respond to the major challenges of our time, we need to engage more people in discussions about the future, and develop a more future-oriented mindset and ability to imagine alternative futures. Katri Vataja will describe the benefits of futures thinking and foresight. You will discover that there is no single way of foresight and futures thinking but many ways to approach the future.

Katri will provide an overview to various approaches to futures and frames of foresight. It helps to understand how future-mindset and future knowledge can be utilized in different contexts and for various purposes. The presentation highlights that the future is open, and it can be influenced by today’s actions.

Meet the speaker

SDC_people_katri_vataja

Katri Vataja (Finland) works as a Foresight, Insight & Strategy Director at Sitra. Sitra is an independent future-oriented Finish Innovation Fund that is influential nationally and internationally and acts as a think tank, promoter of experiments and operating models and a catalyst for co-operation.

Katri has extensive experience of strategy work, organisational development and evaluation. She is a sociologist by education and defended her doctoral dissertation in 2012 in administrative sciences on the themes of organisational change and self-evaluation. She is enthusiastic about the futures of society, especially how to contribute to a fair, sustainable and inspiring future. With her foresight team she provides perspectives on different prospective futures over the long term as part of a dialogue with stakeholders.
